Sale by Sotheby's (London, 25 Feb. 1901, n. 871) to Maggs; Frederick Ferris Thompson (1836-1899); his collection given to UTS in 1923 at the death of his widow, Mary Clarke Thompson. Sotheby's cataloguer read the monogram as "H.A." (for Henri d'Anjou) and referred it to Henri III of France.
