Although there is no text on these leaves to confirm this destination, Netherlandish illuminators often painted full-page miniatures on blank parchment that would then be inserted into these popular devotional books. The Last Judgment with the Virgin Mary and John the Baptist kneeling in adoration below Christ as judge, for example, commonly prefaced the Penitential Psalms in Netherlandish books of hours.
