<detail conceptID="2-3">Amoxitoa (to read/to speak a book, read aloud in Nahuatl) studies the history of the "códices", the pre-Columbian and colonial Mexican manuscripts.
The project aims to gather all the information on the surviving "códices", i.e. Mexican manuscripts or codices, as they are often misnamed.
The database records the codicological and bibliographical data of each manuscript as well as the documentation dedicated to them. It also includes documentation on the languages of these manuscripts (Nahuatl, Maya, Otomi, Zapotec), their pictographic writing and its decipherment, their supports and their modes of production.
The database is also a biographical database of the actors of the Mesoamerican book (the amoxtli in Nahuatl, pikil hu'un in Maya or tacu in Mixtec): their producers, discoverers, collectors, transcribers, publishers, researchers. Thus, it is intended as a bibliographic and prosopographic research tool, allowing researchers and the public to explore information about these manuscripts.</detail>
